EPS–QEOD Travel Grant Student Awards

The EPS–QEOD Travel Grant Student Awards are awarded by the European Physical Society (EPS) through its Quantum Electronics and Optics Division (QEOD) and the Young Minds Action Committee.

These awards support PhD students wishing to attend QEOD-sponsored conferences, specifically the Europhoton 2026 Conference, by covering part of their travel expenses.

The goal of the program is to help talented young scientists actively contribute to leading European conferences in optics and photonics, recognizing scientific contributions of the highest quality.


Eligibility

The Travel Grant Student Awards are open to PhD students who:


  • Have not yet defended their PhD thesis at the date of the QEOD-sponsored conference
  • Have an accepted oral or poster contribution at the conference
  • Are currently enrolled as thesis students (doctoral positions without thesis enrollment are not eligible)


Only one grant per person and one grant per research group may be awarded.

Applicants from developing countries will receive particular consideration.


Award Details

  • Number of grants: 5 (for Europhoton 2026)

Award includes:

  • An official certificate
  • A monetary grant:
  • 500 € for PhD students working in a European country
  • 1000 € for PhD students working outside Europe


Payment Conditions

  • The award is paid only if the recipient is present at the conference
  • Payment is made after the conference via bank transfer

Selection Criteria

Grants will be awarded based on:

  • Scientific quality of the submitted contribution
  • Eligibility status (PhD student, thesis not defended)
  • Accepted oral or poster presentation
  • One award per person and per research group
  • Particular attention to applicants from developing countries

  • (i) Name, surname, and date of birth
  • (ii) Complete affiliation
  • (iii) Title and 50-word abstract of your contribution
  • (iv) Starting date of PhD studies and expected PhD defense date
  • (v) List of publications (maximum five most significant articles)

  • (vi) A support letter from the PhD supervisor


EPS Individual Member (IM) Travel Grants

The European Physical Society (EPS) also offers a limited number of travel grants to EPS Individual Members (IM).

  • Eligibility: Early-career researchers
  • Grant amount: 350 €
